Frequently asked questions

Yes. In a vacuum there are almost no gas molecules to transfer heat through conduction or convection, making it an excellent thermal insulator. Heat transfer by gas molecules becomes negligible when the mean free path becomes extremely long, leaving radiation as the only remaining heat-transfer mechanism.

A scroll pump is an oil-free vacuum pump that compresses gas using two interleaved spiral scrolls. It’s clean, quiet, and ideal for labs and analytical instruments. Use gas ballast when pumping moisture, solvents, or condensable vapors to prevent internal condensation and extend pump life. Read more about dry vacuum pumps.

Most rotary vane pumps use mineral oil, synthetic hydrocarbon oil, or PFPE oil, depending on the application and chemical compatibility. Mineral and synthetic oils are flammable, while PFPE oils (e.g., Fomblin) are non-flammable and chemically inert. Mineral oil is the most common and cost-effective option, synthetic oil offers higher thermal stability, and PFPE oil is mainly used for pumping aggressive chemicals and oxygen, and for plasma processes. Read more about vacuum pump oil and maintenance.

A safety device that ruptures at a defined pressure to protect vacuum chambers and pressure vessels from over-pressurization. Read more about vacuum safety components.

A power source that delivers radio-frequency energy (typically 13.56 MHz, 27.12 MHz, or 40.68 MHz) for plasma generation, sputtering, and semiconductor processes. Read more about RF power supplies.

Most gloveboxes use HEPA filters for particle removal and activated charcoal or catalyst filters for solvent or oxygen removal. A glovebox filter removes particulates, ions, organics, and bacteria. Read more about glovebox solutions.

Thermocouples are available for temperatures up to 350, 750, 1260, 1300, 1600, and 2300 °C. The right type depends on the temperature range and the application. Read more about thermocouple selection.

For more than 30 years, Demaco has been a trusted partner to customers in research and industry. You can contact us for advice on your specific project and we will be happy to support you. Yes, we offer non-standard vacuum parts as well as special vacuum chambers. Please send your drawing or sketch to vacuum@demaco.nl

If you are a new customer, you will need to pay your first order in advance. You can pay with PayPal or credit card on our webshop. If you choose to pay by bank transfer, we will need to add your company into our database and send you the invoice. This will delay the shipment of your order. If you have an account with Demaco (regular customer), we accept 30 days payment term from shipping date.

Typically, it’s 12 months.
