Edge-welded bellows, also known as flex metal bellows, serve as highly flexible components capable of axial, lateral, and angular movements. Unlike hydraulically formed metal hoses, edge-welded bellows exhibit remarkable flexibility and tend to spring back to their natural length (typically midway between their extended and compressed lengths) when not under vacuum. These stainless steel bellows, with a maximum bakeout temperature of 250°C, function as flexible connecting elements between vacuum flanges or end fittings. While not rigid bodies, edge-welded bellows can overcome a specified working stroke.
